ICAO Germany

ICAO Germany is based on the licensed, original, digital ICAO map of the DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH with a resolution of 1:250 000 or 500 dpi. The product consists not of single map sheets, but it contains an entire, homogeneous and coherent data set which encloses the information of the single sheets of Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Munich, Nuremberg, Rostock and Stuttgart. In addition, the airport diagrams of some international German airports are included.

ICAO Germany is part of the product mega pack Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux. The technology used in AirMap allows seamless flights between the maps VFR Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Benelux, i.e. not only the map parts are automatically loaded, but the crossing from one to the other map occurs without interruption. No borders visible when crossing boundaries from one to another adjacent map.

The resolution of the used maps and charts has a direct influence on the readability of the map when used as a Moving Map. In the following 2 original cuttings from the ICAO map with resolutions of 500 dpi and 125 dpi are compared. Below this comparison to larger cuttings are likewise shown with 500 dpi and 125 dpi. The superiority of the use of a high resolution base map is clear two recognize.

APOLLO AirMap ICAO is based on original digital data with 500 DPI (dots by inch), compared to other low resolution 125 DPI products or manual scanned blurred paper sheets.

Remark: The information of DPI ordinarily affects only the size of the image during printing on paper and not the size shown on a computer display. Nevertheless, the digital DFS data set of 500 DPI contains also 4 times of pixel compared to the 125  DPI data set. I.e. a cutting of the same part from a  125 DPI data set is 4 times smaller on the screen than the cutting from a 500 DPI data set. Hence, in the following comparisons the 125 DPI data sets have been enlarged by the factor 4, so that both images have the same size on the screen.
